Every time he appears on screen the movie screeches to a grinding halt as we are forced to watch him overreact to everything happening around him. Here it's one of the cops who, with his oddball nature and ridiculous actions, takes you directly out of the suspense the movie has created. My only complaint about the film, and many Asian films for that matter, is the slapsticky character that seems inserted intothe story. This isn't like 'I Saw the Devil' where violence just builds upon itself seemingly without purpose until it all becomes too much to bear. It's violence is matched by the love and compassion Tae-Sik feels for So-Mi. 'The Man From Nowhere' is a compelling film with some intensely visceral moments. Whatever happened doesn't really matter, all that matters is that Tae-Sik goes on a Denzel-like rampage though the criminal underworld uncovering much more than just drugs.
Maybe it was the guilt he felt after watching his wife get run down, or maybe at that very moment he decided to change his outlook on life. After the hurt of losing his wife and unborn child, getting close to anyone just seemed like too much. At first he didn't want to become attached to So-Mi.
The flashbacks are helpful to the story, but also shed light on why Tae-Sik is the way he is. We get flashbacks of who he used to be and what he used to do. There's also a group of cops trying to track down the cartel, as they happen across the backstory of Tae-Sik. There's a knife fight towards the end that is, quite frankly, one of the best I've ever seen. With precision, Tae-Sik takes on numerous waves of drug cartel baddies and dispatches them with deadly efficiency.

That doesn't mean the guy doesn't know how to handle himself. He was once a government agent, but after a brutal car accident involving his pregnant wife, he's given it all up. So-Mi's mother gets in trouble with the cartel and they come looking for her. Think of this as an Asian cinema version of 'Man on Fire'. Tae-Sik is a lonely pawnshop owner who befriends a little girl named So-Mi, who occasionally comes into his shop. Tae-shik becomes enraged at the prospect that So-mi may already be dead and prepares for a battle, putting his own life at risk.Relatively new director Jeong-beom Lee makes a splash with 'The Man From Nowhere' starring Bin Won (' Mother') Tae-Sik Cha. When Hyo-jeon’s disemboweled body is discovered, Tae-shik realizes that So-mi’s life may also be in danger. The gang promises to release them if Tae-shik makes a delivery for them, however it actually is a larger plot to eliminate a rival drug ring leader. The traffickers find out about her smuggling and kidnap both Hyo-jeong and So-mi. Her mother, Hyo-jeong smuggles drugs from a drug trafficking organization and entrusts Tae-shik with the product, without letting him know.
